City of DeKalb expanding bus service to large southside businesses

DeKALB – DeKalb Public Transit System officials say the city will expand its bus service to southside businesses, including the new Ferrara Candy Company facilities, beginning this coming Monday.

According to a Wednesday news release from the city, the transit system’s Route 19, which serves several large employers, will begin to offer longer hours, from 8:50 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday. The route will be extended to provide service to the Ferrara Candy Company facilities on Gurler Road.

The early-morning Route 19E also will go to the candy company distribution center, with the earliest route starting 4:10 a.m. Monday through Friday.

“DeKalb transit staff has worked with Ferrara representatives to provide nine daily trips to and from the new facilities that coincide with the start and end times of employee shifts,” city officials wrote in the release.

Route 19 also will provide increased access to Harvestore Drive employers, the release stated. The afternoon and evening service will expand to hourly service during all hours of operation.

Route 19S will continue to operate as the school route, city officials wrote. That route runs from 8:15 a.m to 8:45 a.m. and provides public transit access to Tyler Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Huntley Middle School and Founders Elementary.
