DeKalb receives top recognition for comprehensive annual financial report

DeKALB – The leading professional association for government finance officials in the U.S. has awarded the City of DeKalb its highest recognition for the city’s comprehensive annual financial report.

According to a Thursday news release from the city, the Government Finance Officers Association announced the City of DeKalb’s comprehensive annual financial report for fiscal year 2019 earned the association’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, according to the association.

“We are pleased with the GFOA’s recognition of our prudent fiscal management and open and thorough reporting,” DeKalb City Manager Bill Nicklas said in the news release.

This is the 26th time the city earned the recognition from the association, the news release reads.

DeKalb earned the certificate after its comprehensive annual financial report was reviewed by an impartial panel to ensure it meets the high standards for the program, according to the news release. Criteria includes whether the report demonstrates a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story, according to the association.

Along with the Certificate of Achievement, an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement will be presented to the city’s management team, city officials wrote in the release.
