Vehicles carefully make their way through the snow down Sycamore Road in DeKalb

DEKALB - Several DeKalb roads were impacted Sunday evening due to vehicle crashes as cold, wet weather descended upon the area over the weekend.

Sycamore Road at Greenwood Acres in DeKalb was closed briefly due to a traffic accident, according to a DeKalb emergency police alert sent around 6 p.m. Sunday. The alert asked residents to avoid the area and find an alternate route as first responders assessed the scene. The roadway was reopened shortly before 6:20 p.m. Sunday.

Bethany Road at First Street going west is also shut down as of 6:15 p.m. Sunday due to a traffic accident, according to another DeKalb police alert. Motorists were asked to find a different route while traveling the area. The intersection reopened around 6:40 p.m. Sunday, according to the alert.

A cold, wet wintery mix brought rain and fog to the area over the weekend.

According the National Weather Service, a wind advisory is in effect for much of northern Illinois, including DeKalb County from 2 a.m. through noon on Monday. Wind gusts from the west up to 45 to 50 mph are expected, and as a result driving could be difficult especially on north to south roadways.
