DeKALB - All railroad crossings in downtown DeKalb are closed as of 4 p.m. Sunday after a man was fatally struck by a train at Lincoln Highway and Second Street, confirmed Police Chief David Byrd.

Byrd said Sunday that police believe at this time the incident appears to have been accidental, but the investigation remains ongoing.

The City of DeKalb sent an emergency alert out around 4 p.m. Sunday that police were investigating a crash at Second Street and Lincoln Highway, asking residents to avoid the area. Another alert was sent around 4:25 p.m. that all downtown railroad crossings were blocked.

“There is no estimate for the length of closure to the investigation,” the alert stated.

This is a developing story which could be updated as more information becomes available.
