Why Carrier was selected

The center averaged 25 points a game in the Class 3A Kaneland Sectional tournament, helping the Spartans reach the supersectional round for the first time in school history. She beat out DeKalb basketball player Tyler Westberg, Genoa-Kingston basketball player Colin Nesler and DeKalb-Sycamore swimmer Jacon Gramer in an online poll.

On what was working

“The team does a really good job of feeding me the ball in the post. In some games I had a mismatch and they were great at realizing that. All the work my team put in staying wide and cutting so I got open helped a lot. I can’t score without good passes from my teammates.”

On winning a sectional

“We deserved it because we put in work on and off the court. Individually we mastered our roles and were able to do it with the group of girls, and doing it with a group I’ve been playing with most of them since the third grade, just made it more special than it would have been with any other team. I love each and every one of them, and I have different memories of each and every one of them. To be able to grab that sectional plaque, and hold it with all of them is something I will cherish forever.”

On how the season went

“Obviously it didn’t end how we wanted it to [with a loss Monday in the Supersectional round to Carmel]. It’s been a hard 24 hours for all of us. We definitely thought we’d go further. We wanted to go further. Everything happens for a reason, even though we may not see it now. There’s so much to be proud of. We went to battle and we gave it our all. We gave it our best even though it didn’t result how we wanted it to.”
