High school sports roundup for Saturday, Dec. 4

Northern Illinois University had serious trouble in Dayton, Ohio on Saturday, losing 79-41 to the University of Dayton.

No Huskies player scored more than seven points or grabbed more than four rebounds in the road laugher.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Eastern Illinois University 87, Northern Illinois University 81: At Macomb, the Huskies failed to overcome a rocky first half in a loss to Eastern at Western.

The loss is NIU’s (3-3) second loss in Macomb in as many days. Chelby Koker led the offense with 29 points and 11 assists in the loss, Janae Poisson scored 17 points and Laura Nickel added 12 points.

WRESTLING

Dan Gable Donnybrook: At Coralville (Iowa), DeKalb came fourth out of 33 teams across state lines at the Dan Gable Donnybrook.

Tommy Curran led the charge for the Barbs by winning the 145 pound weight class outright. He defeated Liberty’s Kyle Dutton in a 10-7 decision in the championship match.

Danny Aranda was runner-up at 120 pounds and Bradley Gillum took second at 182 pounds for DeKalb, Damien Lopez was third at 152 pounds, Lukes Schmerbach was fifth at 170 and Danny Curran came sixth at 138.

Rockford East Invite: At Rockford, Kaneland came ninth with 74 points.

Cameron Phillips led the Knights by taking first overall in his weight class, while Max Pietak came fourth and Kamron Scholl and Christian Duffing each took fifth.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Indian Creek 35, Woodstock 27: At Shabbona, the Timberwolves shut down the Blue Streaks at home in a low-scoring victory.

Kaneland 42, Rochelle 31: At Maple Park, the Knights led from wire-to-wire in a home win over Rochelle.

McKenzie Schueler led the way for Kaneland (3-4) by knocking down six 3-pointers to tally 18 points and Katharine Marshall pitched in with 12.

DeKalb 39, Aurora East 27: At DeKalb, the Barbs improved to 5-3 overall with a nonconference win.

Amina Gray led the way with 16 points in the win, Kailey Porter scored 12 and Kira Klappordt chipped in nine.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Woodstock 71, Indian Creek 47: At Shabbona, the Timberwolves (2-4) couldn’t keep up with the Blue Streaks.

Cole Oleson led IC with 20 points and Brayden Todd added 10.
