Kaneland’s Katharine Marshall finished tied for 14th at the Class 2A State Finals at Hickory Point in Decatur on Saturday by shooting 74 to bring her two-day total to 150 at the championship meet.
Brianna Chamoun of Sycamore also competed at the final outing of the season in Class 2A, finishing tied for 71st with a weekend total of 170. Barrington’s Mara Janess won the individual state crown with a 141.
Class 2A State Finals: At Weibring Golf Club, Josh Pehl ended the Class 2A championship weekend in a six-way tie for 13th place in Bloomington.
Pehl improved upon his day-one 74 by shooting a 73 on the final day of the season to post a two-day total of 147. Pehl’s teammate Cody Ganzon wasn’t far behind in a tie for 35th place with a weekend total of 154.
Benton’s Cy Norman was the outright state champion in Class 2A, shooting a 134 to win the title by a full five strokes.
DeKalb 4, Burlington Central 2: At DeKalb, the Barbs picked up a victory at home on Senior Day.
Sycamore 1, Hononegah 0: At Rockton, the Spartans kept Hononegah off the board entirely in a hard-fought shutout on the road.
Marmion 6, Kaneland 2: At Maple Park, the Knights suffered a loss to Marmion at home in a high-scoring affair.
Marmion came out firing on all cylinders, scoring five of its goals in the first half.
Little Ten Conference Tournament: At Hinckley, Indian Creek battled back from an opening-set loss to secure third place in its conference with a 25-27, 25-22, 25-22 win over Serena.
Clara Hulthen had seven kills and 14 assists in the victory, Audrey Witte had 11 kills and 19 digs and Kaitlyn Frazier added 17 digs.
Interstate Eight Conference Tournament: At Rochelle, Kaneland finished fifth at the conference tournament on Saturday, bringing home two medals in the process.
Lexi Mayberry and Faith Bartkowiak won gold at no. 3 doubles for the Knights and Evie Taylor finished second at no. 1 singles.
