High school sports roundup for Thursday, May 27

Kaneland’s wrestling team hit the 20-win mark Thursday.

Competing in a triangular at Rochelle, the Knights defeated the host Hubs, 43-28, and Harlem, 62-18.

Against Rochelle, Kaneland received wins from Cameron Phillips, Jared Uebel, Caden Grabowski, Lane Robinson, Grant Baldridge, Jack Yore, Jack Certa, Miles Ripper and Nate Diaz.

Against Harlem, the Knights received wins from Phillips, Anthony Morales, Grabowski, Dylan Hawkins, Robinson, Baldridge, Yore, Certa, Diego Serriteno, Ripper and Diaz.

BASEBALL

Genoa-Kingston 8, Rock Falls 7: At Genoa-Kingston, leading 8-3 after five innings, the Cogs held on for the Big North Conference win.

Genoa-Kingston received two hits apiece from Rhett Kline (double, RBI), Nolan Perry (RBI), Ben Franson (two RBIs) and Ben Younker (RBI). Connor Grimm contributed a double.

Franson pitched 5⅔ innings for the win, allowing three runs (one earned) and four hits. He struck out seven and walked four. Connor Schwichtenberg got the final three outs, striking out one, to earn the save.

Plano 5, Hinckley-Big Rock 2: At Hinckley-Big Rock, the Royals lost in nonconference action.

Judson Scott was 2 for 3 with a double, accounting for half of Hinckley-Big Rock’s hits. Ben Hintzsche and Richard Hintzsche (1 for 3) each had an RBI.

GIRLS SOCCER

Byron 6, Genoa-Kingston 0: At Byron, the hosts erupted for five goals in the second half to pull away in the Cogs’ regular-season finale.

Genoa-Kingston will host Marengo in the first round of the regionals next Tuesday.
