More than 84,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered to DeKalb County residents

DeKalb County residents have received over 84,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as of Thursday, and added 266 more residents to the fully vaccinated total, according to health officials.

There were also two new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 10,324, according to the DeKalb County Health Department, with no new deaths reported, leaving the death toll at 120.

According to Illinois Department of Public Health data, 84,004 total vaccine doses have been administered to DeKalb County residents, and 39,947 residents, or 38.36% of the county’s population of 104,143, have been fully vaccinated. The seven-day rolling average of doses administered to county residents is at 346, with 2,798 doses of total reported inventory, according to state numbers – 2,378 at the health department and 420 at community partners. The inventory numbers are according to state health officials, and might differ from local numbers, DeKalb County health officials said.

According to weekly inventory numbers provided by the DeKalb County Health Department, local vaccine inventory this week includes: 260 doses of Moderna vaccine, 738 of the Pfizer-BioNTech, and 1,390 of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

The seven-day rolling positivity rate for Region 1, which runs north to Rockford and west to the Iowa border is 2%. The county positivity rate is at 2.1%. Positivity rates are reported with a three-day data lag. Region 1 also reports a 7-day average of 43 COVID-19 patients hospitalized.

By the numbers

There remain three local long-term facilities battling the virus, though no new cases were linked to any reported Thursday.

The DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center reports six cases among employees and one resident. Lincolnshire Place in Sycamore reports one case each in a resident and employee. Oak Crest-DeKalb Area Retirement Center reports nine cases in employees. It’s unknown how many of those cases are fully recovered.

Of the new cases, one was in their 20s and one was in their 30s.

In total, there have been 1,871 cases in DeKalb County residents age 19 or younger, 2,528 in their 20s, 1,546 in their 30s, 1,399 in their 40s, 1,267 in their 50s, 849 in their 60s, 453 in their 70s and 411 in their 80s or older.

Of the 120 deaths reported in DeKalb County, 70 were in residents in their 80s or older, 18 were in their 70s, 18 in their 60s, eight in their 50s, three in their 40s, one in their 30s, one in their 20s, and one infant.

According to county data, DeKalb has seen between 4,606 and 4,610 cases, 2,046 and 2,050 cases in Sycamore, 886 and 890 in Sandwich and Plano (listed as one region on the site), 806 and 810 in Genoa, 466 and 470 cases in Cortland, 251 and 255 cases in Hinckley, 246 and 250 in Kirkland, 226 and 230 in Kingston, 196 and 200 cases in Somonauk, 136 and 140 in Waterman, 131 and 135 in Malta, 116 and 120 in Shabbona, 91 and 95 in Maple Park, 21 and 25 in Clare and Earlville, 11 and 15 in Leland and Esmond, and six and 10 in Lee. Marengo and Rochelle each report between one and five cases.

The IDPH reported 1,386,628 people in Illinois have tested positive for COVID-19, while 23,014 people have died statewide. The department reported 25,033,919 tests have been administered to date.

According to testing and recovery data released by the county every Friday, 9,496 DeKalb County residents have fully recovered as of June 4, and 161,319 county residents have been tested.
