Fully vaccinated nears 31%, as 16 more COVID-19 cases reported in DeKalb County Friday

As of Friday, the number of fully vaccinated in DeKalb County neared 31%, according to health officials, who also reported 500 more residents received their full doses as of the end of the week.

There were also 16 more cases of the virus reported, and no new deaths, leaving the death toll at 117.

The new cases Friday bring the total to 10,096, according to the DeKalb County Health Department, which also reported 191 more local residents have fully recovered from the virus this week.

According to Illinois Department of Public Health data, 72,488 total vaccine doses have been administered to DeKalb County residents, and 32,108 residents, or 30.83% of the county’s population of 104,143, have been fully vaccinated. The seven-day rolling average of doses administered to county residents is at 462, with 9,851 doses of total reported inventory, according to state numbers – 9,371 at the health department and 480 at community partners. The inventory numbers are according to state health officials, and might differ from local numbers, DeKalb County health officials said.

According to the DeKalb County Health Department, the weekly vaccine inventory total as of Tuesday was: 1,900 doses of Moderna, 804 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, and 5,315 doses of Johnson and Johnson.

The seven-day rolling positivity rate for Region 1, which runs north to Rockford and west to the Iowa border is 4.4%. The county positivity rate is 5.2%. Positivity rates are reported with a three-day data lag. Region 1 also reports a 7-day average of 95 COVID-19 patients hospitalized.

By the numbers

Four local long-term facilities are battling the virus, although no new cases reported Friday were linked to any of them.

The DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center reports four cases among employees and one resident. Heritage Woods in DeKalb reported three cases in employees. Oak Crest-DeKalb Area Retirement Center reports eight cases in employees. Prairie Crossing Living and Rehabilitation Center in Shabbona with a case each in a staff member and resident.

Of the new cases, five were in residents age 19 or younger, five in in their 20s, four in their 30s and two in their 40s.

In total, there have been 1,808 cases in DeKalb County residents age 19 or younger, 2,455 in their 20s, 1,514 in their 30s, 1,378 in their 40s, 1,249 in their 50s, 835 in their 60s, 447 in their 70s and 410 in their 80s or older.

Of the 117 deaths reported in DeKalb County, 68 were in residents in their 80s or older, 18 were in their 70s, 18 in their 60s, seven in their 50s, three in their 40s, one in their 30s, one in their 20s, and one infant.

According to county data, DeKalb has seen between 4,486 and 4,490 cases, between 2,011 and 2,015 cases in Sycamore, 871 and 875 in Sandwich and Plano (listed as one region on the site), 786 and 790 in Genoa, 456 and 460 cases in Cortland, 251 and 255 cases in Hinckley, 241 and 245 in Kirkland, 221 and 225 in Kingston, 191 and 195 cases in Somonauk, 136 and 140 in Waterman, 121 and 125 in Malta, 116 and 120 in Shabbona, 91 and 95 in Maple Park, 21 and 25 in Clare and Earlville, 11 and 15 in Leland and Esmond, and six and 10 in Lee. Marengo and Rochelle each report between one and five cases.

The DeKalb County website only lists residents who live within county lines for a municipality, while the IDPH website lists everyone within a certain ZIP code. Numbers also may vary because of data lags.

The 60115 ZIP code, including DeKalb, had 4,310 cases reported and 78,903 tests administered (a positivity rate of 5.4%); the 60178 ZIP code, including Sycamore, had 2,006 cases and 24,017 tests (8.3%); the 60111 ZIP code, including Clare, reported 24 cases and 280 tests (8.5%); the 60112 ZIP code, including Cortland, had 455 cases and 5,106 tests (8.9%); the 60135 ZIP code, including Genoa, had 777 cases and 7,247 tests (10.7%); the 60145 ZIP code, including Kingston, had 215 cases and 2,000 tests (10.7%); the 60146 ZIP code, including Kirkland, had 261 cases and 2,651 tests (9.8%); the 60150 ZIP code, including Malta, had 118 cases and 1,639 tests (7.1%); the 60151 ZIP code, including parts of Maple Park in both DeKalb and Kane counties, had 350 cases and 3,775 tests (9.2%); the 60520 ZIP code, including Hinckley, had 247 cases and 3,046 tests (8.1%); the 60548 ZIP code, including Sandwich, had 1,323 cases and 14,463 tests (9.1%); the 60550 ZIP code, including Shabbona, had 130 cases and 1,827 tests (7.1%); and the 60556 ZIP code, including Waterman, had 134 cases and 1,630 tests (8.2%).

The IDPH reported 1,363,507 people in Illinois have tested positive for COVID-19, while 22,369 people have died statewide. The department reported 23,677,720 tests have been administered to date.

According to testing and recovery data released by the county every Friday, 9,250 DeKalb County residents have fully recovered as of May 14, and 154,680 county residents have been tested.
