1. DeKalb Corn Fest runs Friday through Sunday in downtown DeKalb
One of the last remaining free summer music festivals in Illinois, DeKalb Corn Fest, the 43rd annual summer bash of the year, which offers fun for the whole family, is back to take over downtown DeKalb for the weekend.
Entry to the festival, which offers carnival rides, live music, food and beverage vendors, games and, of course, corn and more, is free and open to all.

2. Ribs, Rhythm and Brews Fest on Saturday in downtown Sycamore on Elm Street and Somonauk Streets.
The sixth annual event runs from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday, offering the chance to taste ribs, craft beer and enjoy live music from headliner Back Country Roads. Ribs and side dish contenders will offer scrumptious food while competing for the title of Ribs, Rhythm and Brews Fest Champion.

3. FNBO’s First National Challenge: DeKalb versus Sycamore to benefit local booster clubs on Friday at Northern Illinois University’s Huskie Stadium, 1425 W. Lincoln Highway in DeKalb
The 22nd annual event will pit the DeKalb Barbs against the Sycamore Spartans freshman and varsity teams, with the ticket sale proceeds going to each district’s booster clubs to help support athletic teams and student extracurriculars.
The Tailgate meal goes from 4:45 to 7:15 p.m. Freshman game kicks off at 4 p.m., followed by the Parade of Athletes at 6:15 p.m., and the varsity game at 7 p.m.

4. Anxiety and school pressures: Part one of a four-part series to talk about common things all teens face on Wednesday at DeKalb Public Library
The free session begins at 6 p.m. in the teen room at the DeKalb Public Library, 309 Oak St. in DeKalb.
This free series of programs is presented by Jasmine L. Young, Early Intervention and Prevention Group Coordinator and Youth and Family Therapist of The DeKalb County Youth Service Bureau.

5. Sycamore Park District sets Junk in Your Trunk sale date for Saturday, Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Riverside Sports Complex, 1515 Airport Road.
Those interested in being a vendor should register by Sept. 7. The cost is $20 for two parking spaces. Vendors can sell items from the back of their car or set up next to it. To register, stop by the Community Center or call 815-895-3365.
