COVID-19 update: 2,213 new cases; 34 deaths; 41,404 shots

IDPH: 56.70% of Illinois residents are fully vaccinated against COVID-19

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,213 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 34 additional deaths Tuesday.

For Monday, the state administered 41,404 shots.

The state received the results of 85,514 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Tuesday afternoon. The state’s positivity rate is 1.9%.

Illinois has seen 1,688,261 total cases of the virus, and 25,682 people have died. The state has conducted a total of 34,891,925 tests since the start of the pandemic.

As of late Monday, Illinois had 1,230 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those, 326 were in intensive care units, and 150 were on ventilators.

Vaccine update: As of Tuesday, IDPH reported a total of 18,380,325 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with 15,343,270 vaccines administered.

As of Tuesday, 7,223,764 Illinoisans have been fully vaccinated, or 56.70% of the population. Illinois has a population of 12,741,080 people.

Among Illinois residents 12 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 6,883,086 (63.5%)

At Least 1 Dose: 8,790,140 (81.1%)

Among Illinois residents 18 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 6,411,792 (65.1%)

At Least 1 Dose: 8,145,720 (82.7%)

Among Illinois residents 65 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 1,613,840 (79%)

At Least 1 Dose: 1,980,231 (96.9%)

There can be as much as a 72-hour delay in reporting from health care providers on vaccines administered.

In northern Illinois, here is the percentage of the population fully vaccinated by county:

Chicago: 58.62%

Suburban Cook: 62.32%

Lake: 59.14%

McHenry: 57.46%

DuPage: 66.02%

Kane: 57.31%

Will: 57.35%

Kendall: 58.88%

La Salle: 51.11%

Grundy: 49.92%

DeKalb: 49.63%

Ogle: 49.78%

Lee: 52.39%

Whiteside: 46.94%

Bureau: 49.30%

Regional update: All 11 regions in the state are in Phase 5.

Regional data from the IDPH remains on a three-day lag.

The North Suburban (McHenry and Lake counties) region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 2.2%. Currently, 21% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate average increased to 2.8%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 2.0%.

Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable nine out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to a total of 77 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The West Suburban (DuPage and Kane counties) region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 2.6%. Currently, 25% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity rate stayed flat at 2.7%, and DuPage County’s stayed flat at 2.6%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable nine out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 115 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The South Suburban (Will and Kankakee counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 3.0%. Currently, 21% of ICU beds are available.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 68 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The North (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 3.8%.

Currently, 18% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate increased to 4.2%, Lee County’s rate increased to 1.7%, and Whiteside County’s stayed flat at 3.5%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 92 total COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The North-Central (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 2.8%.

Within this region, La Salle County’s seven-day positivity rate increased to 2.3%. Currently, 19% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for 10 out of the past 10 days. The region is down to a total of 154 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

Chicago’s positivity rate fell to 1.6%. Currently, 17% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for 10 out of the past 10 days.

Suburban Cook County’s positivity rate increased to 1.9%. Currently, 16% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable nine out of the past 10 days in this region.
