IDPH: 645 new COVID-19 cases, 8 deaths Friday

Positivity rates rose in 6 northern Illinois health regions

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 645 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and eight additional deaths Friday.

For Thursday, the state administered 25,781 shots, bringing the total number of COVID-19 vaccines administered to 12,768,842.

The state received the results of 41,037 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Friday afternoon.

Illinois has seen 1,395,497 total cases of the virus, and 23,297 people have died. The state has conducted a total of 26,064,549 tests since the start of the pandemic.

As of late Thursday, Illinois had 430 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those, 91 were in intensive care units, and 35 were on ventilators.

Vaccine update: As of Friday, IDPH reported a total of 14,319,815 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with 12,768,842 vaccines administered.

As of the time this story was published, 6,264,358 of the population of Illinois have been fully vaccinated, or 49.17%. Illinois has a population of 12,741,080 people.

Among Illinois residents 12 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 5,917,735 (54.6%)

At Least 1 Dose: 7,582,029 (70%)

Among Illinois residents 18 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 5,619,543 (57%)

At Least 1 Dose: 7,128,640 (72.3%)

Among Illinois residents 65 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 1,518,678 (74.3%)

At Least 1 Dose: 1,843,388 (90.2%)

There can be as much as a 72-hour delay in reporting from healthcare providers on vaccines administered.

In northern Illinois, here is the percentage of the population fully vaccinated by county:

Chicago: 49.95%

Suburban Cook: 53.18%

Lake: 50.2%

McHenry: 48.36%

DuPage: 57.69%

Kane: 48.01%

Will: 48.15%

Kendall: 49.64%

La Salle: 42.74%

Grundy: 41.15%

DeKalb: 42.12%

Ogle: 42.15%

Lee: 45.76%

Whiteside: 41.74%

Regional update: All 11 regions in the state are in Phase 5.

Regional data from the IDPH remains on a three-day lag.

The North Suburban (McHenry and Lake counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 1.2%. Currently, 30% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate average decreased to 1%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 1.1%.

Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is at a total of 15 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The West Suburban (DuPage and Kane counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 1.3%. Currently, 36% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity rate decreased to 1.7%, and DuPage County’s increased to 2%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 27 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The South Suburban (Will and Kankakee counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 1.3%. Currently, 31% of ICU beds are available.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 16 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The North (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 1.9%.

Currently, 20% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate increased to 2.6%, Lee County’s rate increased to 2.7%, and Whiteside County’s increased to 6.7%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 20 total COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The North-Central (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 1.7%.

Within this region, La Salle County’s seven-day positivity rate remained at 2.8%. Currently, 31% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for 10 out of the past 10 days. The region is down to a total of 32 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

Chicago’s positivity rate increased to 0.8%. Currently, 22% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for 10 out of the past 10 days.

Suburban Cook County’s positivity rate increased to 1%. Currently, 23% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region.
