Illinois has fewer than 4,000 COVID-19 patients in the hospital for the first time since Nov. 4

IDPH announces 7,201 new coronavirus cases, 157 deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 7,201 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 157 additional deaths Friday.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate increased from 7.7% to 8.1%. The state received the results of 97,222 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Friday afternoon.

Illinois has seen 970,590 total cases of the virus, and 16,647 people have died. The state has conducted a total of 13,374,665 tests since the start of the pandemic.

As of late Thursday, Illinois had 3,992 COVID-19 patients in the hospital, the lowest total since Nov. 4. Of those, 808 were in intensive care units, and 464 were on ventilators.

Regional update: Currently, all 11 of the state’s health regions are under additional mitigation measures from the IDPH, and as of Nov. 20, all 11 regions are under Tier 3 mitigations.

Regional data from the IDPH remains on a three-day lag.

The North Suburban region (McHenry and Lake counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12% for its COVID-19 test positivity rate. The region’s positivity rate increased slightly to 9.1%. Currently, 17.6% of medical/surgical beds are available and 28.3% of ICU beds.

The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and two consecutive days under the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate average increased to 11.9%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 8.1%.

Finally, within the Lake/McHenry region, there are 51 available, staffed ICU beds out of 188 total, and 232 ventilators available out of 295.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate increased to 9.1%. Currently, 15.2% of medical/surgical beds are available and 23.8% of ICU beds.

The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and two consecutive days under the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is at 11.1%, and DuPage County is at 8.2%.

Finally, within the DuPage/Kane region, there are 81 available, staffed ICU beds out of 234 total and 374 ventilators available out of 579.

The South Suburban region (Will and Kankakee counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 10.0%. Currently, 22.2% of medical/surgical beds are available and 20.0% of ICU beds.

The region has one day above the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 11 consecutive days under the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Hospitalizations have decreased 10 out of the past 10 days in this region.

Finally, within the Will/Kankakee region, there are 41 available, staffed ICU beds out of 162 total.

The North region (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under the 12% positivity rate. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 8.9%. Currently, 26.8% of medical/surgical beds are available and 22.7% of ICU beds.

The region has 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate increased to 11.7%, Lee County’s rate decreased to 3.4%, and Whiteside County’s rate decreased to 8.7%.

Finally, within this region, there are 46 available, staffed ICU beds out of 179 total, and 240 ventilators out of 343 available.

The North-Central region (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 8.9%.

Currently, 24.8% of medical/surgical beds are available and 23.4% of ICU beds.

The region has seven consecutive days above the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, La Salle County’s seven-day positivity rate decreased to 5.5%.

Finally, within this region, there are 55 available, staffed ICU beds out of 235 and 392 ventilators out of 489.

Chicago has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 8.7%. Currently, 17.8% of medical/surgical beds are available and 23.6% of ICU beds.

The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and two consecutive days under the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Hospitalizations have decreased 10 out of the past 10 days in this region.

Suburban Cook County has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 9.1%. Currently, 18.2% of medical/surgical beds are available and 18.0% of ICU beds.

The region has three consecutive days under the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and two days under 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Hospitalizations have decreased 10 out of the past 10 days in this region.
