Illinois reports fewest COVID-19 patients in an ICU since Nov. 7

IDPH: 8,009 new coronavirus cases, 133 new deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 8,009 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 133 additional deaths Thursday.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate increased from 7.6% to 7.7%. The state received the results of 99,426 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday afternoon.

Illinois has seen 963,389 total cases of the virus, and 16,490 people have died. The state has conducted a total of 13,277,443 tests since the start of the pandemic.

As of late Wednesday, Illinois had 4,093 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those, 837 were in intensive care units, the fewest since Nov. 7, and 496 were on ventilators.

Regional update: Currently, all 11 of the state’s health regions are under additional mitigation measures from the IDPH, and as of Nov. 20, all 11 regions are under Tier 3 mitigations.

The North Suburban region (McHenry and Lake counties) has seen 11 consecutive days UNDER OR OVER 12% for its COVID-19 test positivity rate. The region’s positivity rate increased slightly to 9.0%. Currently, 30.2% of medical/surgical beds are available and 19.5% of ICU beds.

The region has one day under the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate average increased to 11.5%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 8.1%.

Finally, within the Lake/McHenry region, there are 56 available, staffed ICU beds out of 192 total, and 233 ventilators available out of 295.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate increased to 9.0%. Currently, 26.7% of medical/surgical beds are available and 16.6% of ICU beds.

The region has one day under the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is at 11.0%, and DuPage County is at 8.0%.

Finally, within the DuPage/Kane region, there are 83 available, staffed ICU beds out of 324 total and 376 ventilators available out of 579.

The South Suburban region (Will and Kankakee counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 10.0%. Currently, 21.3% of medical/surgical beds are available and 18.7% of ICU beds.

The region has one day under the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Hospitalizations have decreased 10 out of the past 10 days in this region.

Finally, within the Will/Kankakee region, there are 25 available, staffed ICU beds out of 162 total.

The North region (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under the 12% positivity rate. The region’s positivity rate increased to 9.5%. Currently, 27.2% of medical/surgical beds are available and 22.5% of ICU beds.

The region has 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate stayed flat at 10.6%, Lee County’s rate increased to 4.2%, and Whiteside County’s rate increased to 10.7%.

Finally, within this region, there are 37 available, staffed ICU beds out of 179 total, and 238 ventilators out of 343 available.

The North-Central region (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate increased to 8.9%.

Currently, 25.6% of medical/surgical beds are available and 22.8% of ICU beds.

The region has six consecutive days above the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, La Salle County’s seven-day positivity rate decreased to 5.9%.

Finally, within this region, there are 62 available, staffed ICU beds out of 235 and 387 ventilators out of 474.

Chicago has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 8.7%. Currently, 19.3% of medical/surgical beds are available and 23.4% of ICU beds.

The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and one day under the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Hospitalizations have decreased 10 out of the past 10 days in this region.

Suburban Cook County has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 9.1%. Currently, 19.5% of medical/surgical beds are available and 18.1% of ICU beds.

The region has two consecutive days under the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and one day under 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Hospitalizations have decreased 10 out of the past 10 days in this region.
