Eureka hands Hall first defeats of season

The Hall Red Devils baseball team will not go undefeated this season.

Hall (10-2) suffered its first two losses at Eureka Saturday, losing 2-0 and 4-0 to the Hornets in a non-conference doubleheader.

Mac Resetich and Ricky Perez had a hit each, while Jack Savitch took the loss on the mound in the first game.

Alec Bulak went 2 for 3 and Payton Plym was the losing pitcher in Game 2.

Sherrard 7, Princeton 4: Jacob Burns went 2 for 4 with two doubles, an RBI and a pair of runs as the Tigers lost a Three Rivers Conference game in Princeton.

Ryan Brucker took the loss on the mound for PHS (5-3).

St. Bede 12, Morrison 2 (5 inn.): Logan Humpage went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs on Saturday to lead the Bruins to a Three Rivers Conference crossover victory in Peru.

Colin Nave and Dan Dugosh drove in a pair of runs each for St. Bede (5-6).

Landon Jackson earned the win, giving up two unearned runs on four hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

SOFTBALL

St. Bede 13, Morrison 3 (5 inn.): Ryann Stoudt went 4 for 4 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored Saturday as the Bruins rolled to a Three Rivers Conference crossover victory in Peru.

Winning pitcher Reagan Stoudt (3 IP, 9 K), and Bri Briggs each doubled and drove in a pair of runs.

Fieldcrest 7, Hall 5: Taytum Hahn was 3 for 4 with a triple, three RBIs and a run for the Red Devils, while Maggie Filippini took the loss Saturday in Spring Valley.

Sherrard 23, Princeton 13: Mckenzie Hecht smacked a home run and two doubles, scoring four runs and driving in three as the Tigers fell in a Three Rivers Conference game Saturday in Princeton.

Katie Bates took the loss for PHS.

St. Bede 10, Hall 0: St. Bede scored in every inning to defeat the rival Devils in five innings in Three Rivers East play in Spring Valley. Ryann Stoudt and Caroline Moskalewicz had two hits and RBI and Atti Bontz had a hit and two RBIs to lead the St. Bede offense.

Payge Pyszka scattered four hits with five strikeouts for the win.

Princeton 8, Kewanee 4: The Tigresses pushed five runs across in the top of the sixth to defeat the Boiler Girls in Kewanee Friday for the second straight night.

Taylor Wetsel (2 RBIs) and Isa Ibarra (RBI) each had three hits for PHS and Katie Bates (2 RBIs), Olivia Alter (2 RBIs) and Libby Boyles (RBI) each added two hits.

Bates scattered nine hits and two walks while mixing in six strikeouts for the win.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

At Spring Valley: Princeton (102) win 12 events to defeat Erie-Prophetstown (53) and host Hall (11).

Teegan Davis won the high jump (6-2), long jump (20-1) and 400 (58.2) and also ran on the Tigers’ winning 4x400 relay (3:57.8).

Grant Foes won the shot (44-5) and discus (152-10). PHS swept all four relays.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

At Spring Valley: Jenna Loftus won three events for Princeton (51), which finished second behind Erie-Prophetstown (78) in a Three Rivers triangular with host Hall (37) Friday.

Loftus won the high jump (4-6), 3200 (14:00.1) and 300 hurdles (55.0). Other winners for PHS were Miyah Fox in the 100 hurdles (17.7), Morgan Richards in the shot put (32-3 3/4) and the 4 x 100 relay (55.9) of Georgie Fulton, Sophia Oester, Scarlet Fulton and Fox.

“We had some nice performances on a cool, windy day,  Our young sprinters continue to perform well as do our young throwers.  Jenna had a nice day, too, winning three individual events.” PHS coach Pat Hodge said.

Winners for Hall were Victoria Ullrich in the 100, Promise Giocometti in the 100 and Jennifer Casford in the 200.

WRESTLING

At Peru: St. Bede split a pair of duals Saturday, defeating Marquette (48-6) and losing to Plano (33-22).

Ethan Fleming (195) won by first period pin against Plano and Marquette, while Dominic Bima (138) and Noah Setser (145) also went 2-0.

At Princeton: The Tigers dropped both ends of a triangular Saturday at Prouty Gym, losing 39-27 to Dakota and 48-34 to Coal City. Payne Miller won by pin in both matches, while Matthew Harris won by 7-2 decision against Dakota and 13-4 major decision against Coal City.
