Two more area basketball players reached milestones Tuesday night.

Both Amboy’s Mallory Powers and Sterling senior Brooklyn Borum scored their 1,000th point in action Tuesday.

Powers scored 19 points in the Lady Clippers’ last-second 51-49 loss at Eastland in a battle of the top two ranked teams in 1A. She now has 1,006 career points.

Borum scored 23 points with 13 rebounds in the Golden Warriors lost to Geneseo to became the eighth player in Golden Warrior history to reach the 1,000-career point plateau.

Roanoke-Benson senior all-stater Luke Braman also went over 1,000 career points with a 21-point effort in the Rockets’ win over Midland Tuesday.

Other area players in the past week to hit milestones include Wethersfield senior Colton Quagliano with 2,000 points and Annawan senior Emily Miller and L-P senior Drake Weber with 1,000.

Fieldcrest coach Matt Winkler, in his 29th season with one more to go, notched his 600th career victory Saturday and has since tacked on two more. He is is one of three coaches in the Heart of Illinois Conference with 600-plus wins, including Ridgeview’s Rodney Kellar (665-316, 35 years) and Eureka’s Tim Meiss (655-484, 36 years).

State rankings

Amboy (6-1) was ranked No. 1 and Eastland (10-0) was No. 2 in Tuesday’s AP 1A girls rankings that came out before Tuesday’s game. They will meet again this year.

Amboy won two of three meeting last year, but Eastland’s came on a buzzer-beater for the sectional championship.

Riverdale (6-0) remains No. 1 in the 2A girls poll. Seneca cracked the top 10 at No. 9. Fieldcrest received votes, but fell out of the top 10.

Yorkville Christian is ranked No. 1 in the 1A boys poll followed by Indian Creek and Roanoke-Benson. Wethersfield slipped four spots to No. 9 while Fulton received eight votes.

Fieldcrest received four votes in 2A and Newman received one, although they have yet to play due to COVID-19. Clark and Mt. Carmel tied for the top spot.
