What I’m missing most this winter

Here’s what I’ve been missing most the winter as our sports remain on “pause.”

The swish sound of the ball going through the net.

The bouncing balls on the hardwood.

Squeaky sneakers on the gym floor.

Thousands of intense wrestling fans packing Prouty Gym for the PIT.

The slap of the official’s hand on the mat for a pin.

The hospitality rooms at all the tournaments, especially at the Colmone Classic and Plano Christmas Classic.

St. Bede Lady Bruins coach Tom McGunnigal becoming animated on the sidelines.

And his mother, Sybil, the official scorer, watching him.

Mama Syb’s dish of candy at the scorer’s table.

My daughter and classmates playing their senior season.

The pom pons.

The cheerleaders.

The coaches.

The referees.

And their whistles.

The fans.

The players.

The PHS pep band playing “Eye of the Tiger” and school’s “Let’s Win” fight song that I’ve heard the past 34 years.

The roar of the crowd.

Frank Colmone at the Colmone Classic.

Hall coach Mike Filippini’s many quips.

Brad Bickett’s and Jason Marquis’ foot stomps.

David Hancock announcing starting lineups at St. Bede.

Mike Vaughn’s pictures.

Charlie Klinefelter’s flashy suits.

The Storm Cellar.

Prouty Gym.

The popcorn at St. Bede.

Checking Paulie Bosnich’s and Jim Smith’s score books at PHS games.

Covering games like I’ve done the past 36 years.

And I’m even missing tight deadlines after the games.

PIT additions: I wanted to make two additions to my list of PIT champions from last week. Aaron Christiansen won in 1995 and Skee Hartmann won in 1996.
