Bureau Valley teacher finalist for Agriculture award

District also updates return to learn plan based on updated CDC guidelines

Bureau Valley High School

During this week’s board meeting, Bureau Valley High School recognized BVHS Ag Teacher Caseelynn Johnston as one of five finalists for the Golden Owl Award.

This award is given to the top Ag Teacher in the state. The winner will be announced in June at the IAVAT Conference, Principal Duane Price said.

The district also updated it’s return to learn plan based on updated CDC guidelines. Superintendent Jason Stabler notified board members that masks are optional now and that language will be updated in official policies. The CDC is no longer requiring masks on buses.

Also, there is a change to the language regarding close contacts. The District will continue to notify parents and offer testing if a student is a close contact, but there will be no exclusion for students with no symptoms. If a student tests positive, they must be out for 5 days.

Price also announced that BVHS art students will have their work on display at the Prairie Arts Center in Princeton for the month of March.

Dennis Thompson also has a presentation to the board members about the school’s arboretum project. Thompson originally began this plan when the original high school building was constructed.

He has offered his services to coordinate the planting and work with the district’s science teachers and students to enhance learning. He will also work with families wishing to have ‘memorial’ trees for loved ones.

The next regular meeting of the Bureau Valley District #340 Board of Education will be at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2022.
