Community gives big for Bureau County United Way on Giving Tuesday

Donations from the day total $2,875

By all measures, Giving Tuesday was a success for Bureau County United Way.

The agency’s Executive Director Tori Yepsen said donations from the day have totaled $2,875.

United Way board members spent the day in shifts collecting donations for this year’s giving campaign, which helps local community organizations fund programs for those in need of support from health and human service programs throughout Bureau County.

Yepsen said the day was a success both financially and in terms of personal satisfaction because of the generosity of those who donated.

“Thank you to all the community supporters who joined us this Giving Tuesday,” Yepsen said. “It was very cool to sit in that little cottage and see the people of Bureau County join millions of others around the world for a common cause-to build up communities.”

“I’m proud to be a part of this organization and am always blown away by the generosity of out neighbors,” Yepsen said.

This year’s United Way goal is $107,000. Proceeds help to fund 13 local agencies.

The United Way will host next a Polar Express movie event beginning at noon on Saturday, Dec. 18 at the Apollo Theater. Tickets are $10 and include small popcorn and drink. Tickets can be purchased at Guys and Gals Salon or by contacting the BCUW at 815-875-2631 ext 1006 or bcuw@localunitedway.org.
