The Bureau County Democrats hosted their annual dinner to honor John Mitchell, a United States labor leader and president of the United Mine Workers of America from 1898 to 1908.
Honored guests attending were Mary Kay O’Brien, candidate for Supreme Court, Third District and 76th District state Rep. Lance Yednock, D-Ottawa.
The featured speaker was Illinois Comptroller Susana A. Mendoza. Under Comptroller Mendoza’s leadership Illinois has gone from a two-year backlog on payments owed to paying bills on time, the Bureau County Democrats said. The oldest bill in her office is nine days old. For the first time in 20 years, Illinois has received a credit upgrade from two of the three credit agencies, and Mendoza said the state is working on getting the third upgrade.
