Spring Valley man indicted on sex charges

SPRING VALLEY — A Spring Valley man was indicted by a Bureau County grand jury on charges of sexual assault.

Hugo Heredia, 56, was indicted for two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child — a class X felony — and five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The class x felony charge comes with a minimum sentence of six years and a maximum of 30 years, if found guilty.

The charges involve seven different children younger than 13. The two predatory criminal sexual assault charges accuse the defendant of placing his hand on both victims. In the five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, the defendant is accused of touching five victims.

An officer from the Spring Valley Police Department testified before the grand jury. Heredia is in custody of the Bureau County Sheriff’s Department with bond set in the amount of $750,000, with 10% needed for release.

Heredia will next appear in court Wednesday, Nov. 3.
