PRINCETON — A Bureau County Judge found probable cause to move forward with the case against a Spring Valley felon accused of illegal possession of a firearm.

Eddie Sardon, 50, of Spring Valley is accused of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a Class 3 felony punishable by anywhere from two to 10 years in prison with no possibility of probation.

Sardon was charged after Spring Valley Police were tipped off that he was in possession of a firearm in the apartment in which he was living. He previously was convicted of possession of a controlled substance, a Class 3 felony, in LaSalle County in 2012 barring him from owning a firearm.

Spring Valley Sgt. Sarah Kinkin testified at the hearing to having found a rifle in proximity to Sardon’s possessions at the apartment, establishing probable cause to move forward with prosecution.

Sardon, represented by Public Defender Ray Nolasco, pleaded not guilty. He is scheduled for trial May 3.
