PRINCETON – A Rhode Island man allegedly caught with methamphetamine skipped his Bureau County court appearance and, as a result, forfeited his $60,000 bond.

Leonel Rosario, 37, of Providence, Rhode Island, was arrested by the Tri-DENT Drug Task force and charged with possession with intent to deliver more than 900 grams of methamphetamine on Nov. 4, a Class X felony, punishable by a minimum of 15 years in prison.

Rosario posted $60,000 cash bail and failed to appear in court for his preliminary hearing Jan. 8, according to a release from Bureau County State’s Attorney Geno Caffarini.

As a result of his missed appearance, an arrest warrant was issued for Rosario. Caffarini filed a petition with the court to forfeit Rosario’s $60,000 cash bail. On Wednesday, Judge Marc Bernabei entered an order forfeiting Rosario’s $60,000 bond to the county. The funds will be transferred to Bureau County’s general fund for use as allowed by the law and as the county deems appropriate.

Rosario is represented by attorney Vincent Luisi Jr.
