Bureau Valley falls in three sets to Mendota

Bureau Valley took Mendota to three sets in a Three Rivers Conference East volleyball match at the Storm Cellar Tuesday before falling to the Spikers to a 20-25, 25-17, 25-10.

Leading contributors for the Storm (6-11, 2-4) were Ashley Nordstrom (10 kills, 9 digs, 4 points ), Tyra Sayler (12 digs), Emma Stabler (6 kills, 14 digs, 6 points, 2 aces), Kate Salisbury (18 assists 12 digs, 2 aces) and Lexie Marquez (7 digs).

Lauren Martin had 23 digs and five aces for Mendota while Marah Setchell had 10 kills and an ace for the Spikers, while Kya Delao had 19 assists, seven digs and an ace.

BV swept the sophomore and freshmen matches.

CROSS COUNTRY

At Mendota: Brock Loftus (15:41) and Ian Eller (17:20) ran 1-2 on Tuesday to lead Amboy-LaMoille-Ohio (21) to victory over Mendota (46) and Princeton (69).

Hall and Putnam County did not field full teams.

Christian Yepsen paced the Tigers by finishing 11th in 18:59, followed by Mack Williams (17th, 19:39), Gabriel Glass (19th, 21:18), Trent Schafer (20th, 21:29), Dawson Lambert (22nd, 22:51), Kamden Wahlgren (24th, 23:49) and Robert Nelson (26th, 24:24).

Putnam County’s Joey Twardowski was 14th (19:06) and Hall’s Eric Martinez was 21st in (22:49).

In the girls race, Amboy’s Lauren Althuas won in 21:01, while Princeton’s Lexi Bohms was second in 21:14, Hannah Muehlschlegel was third (22:50), Kiana Brokaw was fifth (23:27), Hope Crouch was eighth (26:11), Claire Grey was ninth (26:47) and Ella Grey was 10th (28:52).

PHS was the only team to field a full squad.

At Kewanee: Elijah House ran a 17:46 to place second and Ben Roth was fourth (18:57) to lead Bureau Valley (35) to a win Tuesday over Kewanee (38) and Orion (47).

Also for the Storm were Evan Entas was 10th (20:39, Payton Walowski 14th (21:08), Rhiley Pinter 22nd (22:49), Landon Hulsing 26th (23:57), and Cameron Stodghill 29th (24:05) .

Greyson Marincic placed 15th (21:09) and Henry Orteza 16th (21:36) for St. Bede.

In the girls race, Jaelyn Weber ran a 23:43 to place fifth and Madelyn Torrance was 10th (24:38) to lead St. Bede to a second-place finish with 60 points. Cambridge (32) won, while Bureau Valley (90) was fourth.

Amalie Graversgaard placed seventh in 24:08 to lead the Storm. Also competing for the Storm were Darla Kepner (16th, 26:05), Allison Larkin (26th, 28:37), Jillian Hulsing (29th,29:07), and Kaleen Carlson (36th, 30:50).

Other runners for St. Bede were Macy Zeglis (14th, 25:01), Aleda Hoogland (20th, 26:54), Abbie George (34th, 29:51)

GIRLS GOLF

At Spring Creek: St. Bede’s Brianne Briggs shot a 45 to earn medalist honors Tuesday.

Aleanna Mendoza (46), Gianna Grivetti (49) and Ava Manicki (58) rounded out the scores for the Bruins (198), who were the only school with enough golfers for a team score.

For Bureau Valley, Callie Schoff had a 58, Cassidy Peterson carded a 59 and Layne Spreston added a 64.
