Area roundup: Katie Bates leads PHS past Hall

Katie Bates had 17 assists, 10 digs, four points, two aces and a pair of kills Monday to lead Princeton to a 25-10, 25-10 victory over Hall in Three Rivers East volleyball play in Spring Valley.

Abby Peterson recorded 13 points, two aces and nine digs for the Tigresses (10-1, 5-0 TRC East), while Madison Richards added eight kills, three blocks, three points and an ace.

At LaMoille: Henry-Senachwine defeated host LaMoille 25-17, 25-21 in nonconference play Monday. Kiersten Shevokas had six kills, four points and two blocks for LaMoille while Olivia Sadnick and McKenna Klein had five points each and Ella Cherry had six assists and four points.

At Varna: Henry-Senachwine went 4-0 to win the Midland Invitational on Saturday. Henry beat Hall, 26-24, 25-20, in the championship.

Hall went 2-2 with wins over Peoria (25-19, 24-26, 15-10) and Midland (17-25, 25-15, 15-8) and losses to LaMoille (25-22, 14-15, 18-16) and Henry. Mia DeAngelo had 37 assists, 35 digs and five aces for Hall.

LaMoille finished seventh in the eight-team tournament.


At Kewanee: Hall shot a 358 to place third among 19 teams at the Kewanee Invitational on Saturday.

Landen Plym led the Red Devils with an 85 to tie for ninth. Also scoring for Hall were Rivers Jordan (88), Grant Plym (89) and Josh Scheri (96).

Also medaling were St. Bede’s Jack Delaney (5th, 83) and Bureau Valley’s Bryson Smith (14th, 86).


Kewanee 51, St. Bede 27: The Bruins surrendered the first 14 points of the game Friday, although a 5-yard touchdown run by Tyreke Fortney and a 23-yard scoring run by John Brady kept the visitors in the hunt in the first half.

Trailing, 30-14, at halftime, St. Bede forced a turnover on downs on its own 1-yard line and marched 99 yards to score on Brady’s 25-yard pass to Fortney. The Boilermakers (3-0, 1-0) delivered the knockout blow with an 80-yard kickoff return touchdown by Keyontiss Patterson and a 37-yard interception return TD by Brady Clark in a 13-second span.

Brady ran 20 times for 104 yards and two touchdowns and completed 5 of 13 passes for 93 yards with three interceptions.
