Photo gallery: Annular solar eclipse in Starved Rock Country

Did the sunrise look a little different Thursday morning? A crescent sun rises in the east over Interstate 80 in Princeton on Thursday, June 10, 2021. An annular solar eclipse happens when the moon covers the sun’s center, leaving the Sun’s visible outer edges to form a “ring of fire,” or crescent shaped sphere. The eclipse was only visible for about five minutes before fading away. Illinois next total solar eclipse will occur in the southern half of the state on Monday, April 8, 2024.
