Run Thru the Hills returning to Lake in the Hills

Runners begin to pick up speed at the Run Thru the Hills race Sunday, April 15, 2012, in Lake in the Hills. The annual run is popular and on a challenging course which gives participants the taste of the rolling terrain that surrounds Woods Creek Lake.

The village of Lake in the Hills will host the Run Thru the Hills event this April.

The event, which starts at 10 a.m. April 10 at the Children’s Medical Building parking lot at 301 N. Randall Road, will feature a 5K run or walk, a 1-mile dog walk, and a kids’ 100-yard dash.

“This year marks the 70th anniversary of the incorporation of the village of Lake in the Hills,” Recreation Superintendent Kim Buscemi said in a statement. “Run Thru the Hills is one of the many events our division will bring to the community as we celebrate this exciting moment in Lake in the Hills.”

The race will take participants through one of McHenry County’s scenic routes, with challenging hills surrounded by forested neighborhoods, views of the lakes, and parks like Turtle Island and Indian Trail Beach.

After the race, participants can enjoy the post-race party area with refreshments and chances to socialize with other members of the community. The village’s recreation division also will host a “Come Play with Us” event for families during Run Thru the Hills from 11 a.m. to noon.

The cutoff for online registration is 5 p.m. April 9, or when the race reaches a total of 400 5K entries, 30 kids’ dash entries, or 30 1-mile dog walk entries.

Participants may register online at raceroster.com/events/2022/57334/run-thru-the-hills.

Those who register before April 1 will receive discounted rates. The cost is $35 per person for the 5K, rising to $45 on April 1; $20 for the dog walk, or $30 starting April 1; and $15 for the kids’ dash, $20 starting April 1.
