St. Charles Pottawatomie Garden Club to host garden walk

The Pottawatomie Garden Club will be “Celebrating Gardens In Bloom” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 26.

The 15th annual garden walk features five gardens in the St. Charles area, officials announced in a news release. This year, the event will feature five gardens on the east side of St. Charles.

The Seney garden, located in the historic Pottawatomie area of St. Charles, features an English-inspired garden border running along the east and west sides of the yard. A brick patio is surrounded by shade annuals and perennials and a raised rose bed.

With their backyard overlooking the Pottawatomie Golf Course, the Raschke garden features a pool, fireplace, fire pit and pizza oven for outdoor entertainment. It is surrounded by lilacs, hydrangeas, birch and crab apple trees.

After reading an article in a garden magazine featuring woodland gardens, Lynne Allicino decided her property was a perfect setting for one, which includes a stream and waterfall.

At the home of Dave and Sherri Rinker – a children’s book author – the garden features whimsical, child-minded touches mixed into traditional gardening areas. These include a rock “river,” where ceramic koi fish swim, a small fairy garden, a children’s tea area, and a tribute to Peter Rabbit.

The Salvati Garden features mulched paths bordered by a variety of shade- and sun-loving plants in the native woods and open areas. It includes a woodland patio surrounded by butterfly and prairie flower gardens.

The Salvati home also features the Garden Gate Boutique, where unique garden-related items will be for sale.
