Bears quarterback Justin Fields made his return to practice Wednesday, but remained limited by a rib injury. Bears coach Matt Nagy said veteran Andy Dalton handled all the reps with the first-team offense Wednesday.

Fields is far from the only Bears starter dealing with an injury this week. Eight players sat out practice Wednesday with various ailments. The list included several key starters: defensive tackle Akiem Hicks (ankle), tight end Cole Kmet (groin), receiver Allen Robinson (hamstring) and linebacker Roquan Smith (hamstring).
Neither Hicks nor Robinson has played since Nov. 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Smith left last week’s game against the Lions with a hamstring injury late in the first half and did not return to the game. Kmet’s injury is new as well. The second-year tight end didn’t appear to injure himself last week. He played the entire Thanksgiving Day game and spoke in the media room afterward.
Other players who didn’t practice Wednesday included defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. (ribs), receiver Marquise Goodwin (foot/ribs), linebacker Sam Kamara (concussion) and running back Damien Williams (calf).
Safety Tashaun Gipson has a chest injury but was a full participant Wednesday.
