Per ESPN’s Dan Graziano, Gipson is signing a one-year contract with the Bears.
The 30-year-old safety started all 16 games for the Bears in 2020 and had one of his best games in the Wild Card playoff game against the New Orleans Saints. A nine-year NFL veteran, Gipson has 25 career interceptions, including six in 2014 when he was a Pro Bowl performer as a member of the Cleveland Browns.
Gipson joined the Bears on a one-year contract prior to the 2020 season. He had two interceptions last season, along with seven passes defended, one fumble recovery and 66 total tackles. Gipson served as a nice complement to Pro Bowl safety Eddie Jackson at the other starting safety position.
With Pro Bowl cornerback Kyle Fuller now in Denver, the Bears need all the veteran help they can get in the secondary. Signing Gipson helps to fill that void.
