Bears WR Allen Robinson marks second consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season

CHICAGO – With a 35-yard reception in the third quarter, Bears receiver Allen Robinson surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for the second consecutive season.

Robinson continued his string of quality games, sparked by the return of quarterback Mitch Trubisky to the starting lineup on Nov. 29. Robinson finished Sunday's 36-7 win over the Houston Texans with nine catches for 123 yards and a touchdown.

“It means a lot because, for myself, I’m the person that’s waking up early, in the summer working out in south Florida, trying to put myself in the best position possible to be able to help my team,” Robinson said. “When you reflect on the work as a player that you’ve put in and what you set out to accomplish, it definitely does feel good.”

With 1,000 yards on the season, Robinson recorded his third 1,000-yard receiving effort, and his second with the Bears. Robinson had a career-high 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2015 as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He finished last season with 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns, even as the Bears offense struggled through an 8-8 season.

For the 2020 season, Robinson now has 1,027 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Robinson, who will be a free agent in March, has notched 1,000-yard seasons with quarterbacks Blake Bortles, Mitch Trubisky and now a combination of Trubisky and Nick Foles. He has been one of the few steady and consistent offensive options for the Bears in 2019 and 2020.

Robinson was once again Trubisky’s top target Sunday. Trubisky targeted Robinson 13 times. The Bears quarterback finished his day 24-of-33 passing for 267 yards and three touchdowns, with a 126.7 passer rating.

“We’re all on the same page,” Robinson said. “We’re all finally starting to click a little bit, see things, how it’s coming together. I’m not sure the rhyme or reason to that, but I do feel like we’re getting in a groove in being able to create explosive plays on first and second down.”

Robinson became the fifth Bears player with 1,000 receiving yards in back-to-back seasons. The others were Curtis Conway in 1994 and 1995, Marty Booker in 2001 and 2002, Brandon Marshall in 2012 and 2013 and Alshon Jeffery in 2013 and 2014.
