Crystal Lake-based Aptar ranked as one of country's 'most responsible companies'

Crystal Lake-based Aptar was named one of “America’s Most Responsible Companies” by Newsweek for 2021, falling in the top 100 of the 400 highlighted companies, according to a news release.

Aptar – which designs and manufactures drug delivery, product dispensing and packaging devices – was the only McHenry County business to make the list, joining 30 other Illinois companies, according to the Newsweek report.

It was the fourth top-ranked Illinois company, coming in at 83 nationwide.

Abbott Laboratories ranked the highest of Illinois-headquartered companies, coming in 25, according to Newsweek.

The rankings, compiled by Newsweek in partnership with Statista, were created using publicly available performance data in the environmental, social and corporate governance categories for the country’s 2,000 largest public companies by revenue in the U.S., according to the release.

Newsweek and Statista also took into account perception results from a survey of 7,500 U.S. citizens.

This is the second year the rankings have been compiled.

“We are extremely proud to be recognized by Newsweek and Statista for the second year in a row for our efforts to further a more sustainable, socially responsible, diverse, equitable and inclusive company,” Aptar President and CEO Stephan B. Tanda said in a release. “This recognition, along with our recent recognition as one of the ‘Most Responsible Companies in France for 2021’ by Le Point, is a reflection of our global commitment to social and environmental responsibility.”
