Joliet has suspended door-to-door and intersection solicitations as a measure to fight the spread of COVID-19.
The city has stopped issuing solicitation permits until further notice, the city said in a news release.
Anyone wanting to solicit at intersections or door-to-door must complete applications with the city, meet requirements, and pay necessary fees, the release said.
The city also provided general information about the solicitation process in Joliet.
The city advised against letting solicitors into homes or giving them personal information.
"If a solicitor refuses to leave call 911," the release said.
Intersection solicitation is limited to nonprofit organizations that meet requirements outlined in the permit application. Once approved organizations can solicit once a year.
Typically, intersection solicitation is allowed May through October. Due to the pandemic, the city is currently making permits available for July and August only.
Door-to-door solicitation is intended for businesses only.
