The Illinois Secretary of State's Office announced it is extending statewide closures of general in-person services, including its DeKalb driver services facility location, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Driver services facilities statewide, including the site at 1360 Oakwood St. in DeKalb, will be closed to the public for in-person transactions until Jan. 5, according to a Friday news release from Secretary of State Jesse White's office. The public is encouraged to take advantage of online services instead.
Expiration dates for driver’s licenses and identification cards also will be extended and remain valid until June 1. The extension also includes those who have February, March, April and May expiration dates, according to the release.
Commercial driver's license holders and commercial permit holders are excluded from the extension, according to the release. However, the DeKalb facility will remain open for new driver and CDL written and road exams.
Online services through the office's website at www.cyberdriveillinois.com include renewing a license plate sticker, renewing a driver's license and renewing an ID card for people ages 22 to 64.
Those eligible for online driver’s license renewal will receive a letter from the office with a PIN necessary for online renewal, according to the release.
Those with driver’s licenses or ID cards set to expire through Jan. 31 who qualify for online renewal should receive their PIN in December or January. Those whose driver’s licenses or ID cards expire after Feb. 1 will receive their PIN about 90 days before their expiration date.
