Crystal Lake man accused of stealing more than $10,000 from Woodstock church outreach fund

A Crystal Lake man was arrested Thursday after police say he stole more than $10,000 from the Woodstock Catholic church where he worked as the business manager.

A criminal investigation into misappropriated funds at Resurrection Catholic Church in Woodstock has led to the arrest of 59-year old Christopher C. Trimpe, according to a news release.

The Diocese of Rockford contacted the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office in January with concerns about funds from Resurrection Catholic Church’s financial account, according to the release.

The diocese reported irregularities within the parish’s outreach program account, which is used to “assist the less fortunate,” according to the release. The sheriff’s office investigation revealed that Trimpe, a business manager and brother within the church, used more than $10,000 of church funds for his personal use since 2014, according to the release.

A warrant was issued on Tuesday for Trimpe’s arrest, and on Thursday the Great Lake Regional Fugitive Task Force took the man into custody. He is charged with a felony count of theft between $10,000 and $100,000.

Trimpe remained at the McHenry County Jail Thursday afternoon. His bond is set at $40,000, meaning he would need to post $4,000 bail to be released.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday morning.
