Romeoville pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle on I-55

A Romeoville man died after he crossed Interstate 55 by foot and was struck by a vehicle, police said

About 5:20 p.m. on Monday, a Plainfield man was driving a 2018 Chevrolet in the southbound direction of I-55 near milepost 269 when Renold Bean, 58, entered the roadway, according to an Illinois State Police news release.

Bean was struck by the vehicle in the left lane and taken to AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center in Bolingbrook for treatment.

At close to 6 p.m., Bean was pronounced deceased at the hospital’s emergency room, according to the Will County Coroner’s Office.

The left southbound lane of I-55 near milepost 269 was closed for a traffic investigation and then reopened about 6:39 p.m. Monday, police said.

An autopsy for Bean was scheduled for Tuesday.
