This year's Holiday Lights Recycling Program, sponsored by the DeKalb County Health Department, will be handled differently because of COVID-19.

To reduce the amount of interaction between the public and staff of drop-off locations, no collection containers or sites will be available this year. Instead, residents can take their holiday lights and extension cords directly to DeKalb Iron and Metal Co. or Zimmerman Recycling, both in DeKalb.

Residents can drop off their old holiday lights at either location during regular operating hours.

DeKalb Iron & Metal, 900 Oak St., is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. DIMCO can be reached at 815-758-2458.

Zimmerman Recycling, 301 Industrial Dr., is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The business can be reached at 815-756-8600.

For more information about the Holiday Lights Recycling Program, call Emily Sitkie at 815-748-2430 or email recyclemailbox@dekalbcounty.org.
