2 men, 1 teen carjack food delivery driver's car in Joliet: cops

Two men and a 15-year-old from Chicago were arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a food delivery driver’s vehicle in Joliet, police said.

About 6:51 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a report of a robbery in the 1400 block of Mason Avenue, which is near the intersection of North Midland Avenue and Black Road, according to the Joliet police.

The officers arrived at the scene and determined a female food delivery driver had been robbed and her vehicle stolen, police said. As she walked back to her vehicle from a delivery, she was approached by Rickie Jones, 19, Cornelius Aaron, 19, and a male juvenile, who were armed with handguns, police said.

“One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded her belongings and vehicle,” police said.

Jones, Aaron and the juvenile fled in the victim’s vehicle, police said. A description of the suspects and the vehicle were passed on to other law enforcement agencies in the area.

A short time later, Illinois state troopers notified the officers they had three suspects detained after conducting a traffic stop on the vehicle near the area of Interstate 80 and Francis Road, police said. Jones, Aaron and the juvenile were positively identified as the suspects and taken into custody without incident, police said.

“All three were transported to the Joliet Police Department where they were interviewed and gave statements implicating themselves in the robbery and carjacking,” police said.

Three black BB handguns were recovered from the vehicle.

On early Thursday morning, Jones and Aaron were taken to the Will County jail.

In a statement, Joliet Police Chief Al Roechner said, "These acts of senseless violence will not be tolerated in the city of Joliet."

“This is just another example of the relentless determination of the members of the Joliet Police Department,” Roechner said. “I wish to thank our law enforcement partners, especially the Illinois State Police, for their vigilance and cooperation that was vital in the arrest of these three offenders.”
