Sen. Sue Rezin named Republican deputy leader in state senate

State Sen. Sue Rezin, R-Morris, has been selected as deputy leader of the Illinois State Senate Republican Caucus.

“It’s an honor to be selected as Deputy Leader,” Rezin said in a statement Friday. “I am pleased to have [Leader-Elect Sen.] Dan’s [McConchie, R-Hawthorn Woods] confidence and look forward to serving in this new role.

“There is no denying that we are at a crossroads as a party and a state. I believe Dan is the person best equipped to guide us down a new and different path. I am looking forward to working with Dan as his deputy leader to help rebuild our organization and our state.”

Rezin, who has served in the Illinois Senate since 2010, previously was serving in leadership as assistant Republican leader. Rezin’s district takes in La Salle, Bureau, Putnam, Kendall, Grundy, Livingston and Will counties.

The appointment will take effect after an official vote on the Illinois Senate floor in January.
