Polo man charged with first degree murder in Rochelle shooting death

ROCHELLE – A Polo man has been charged with first degree murder following the shooting death of a 37-year-old man in Rochelle on Thursday night.

Cody Neuschwanger, 24, of Polo was also charged with mob action along with two 17-year-old juveniles from Polo.

At approximately 9:11 p.m. Thursday, Rochelle Police responded to a 911 call for a possible shooting in the 1100 block of First Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

He was transported to Rochelle Community Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Rochelle Police Department and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit are conducting an investigation.

RPD was assisted on scene by the Rochelle Fire Department and Ogle County Sheriff's Office.

Neuschwanger was transported to Ogle County Jail and the two juveniles were released to their parents. The victim’s identity is being withheld until next of kin are notified.
