Sauk Valley reports 134 new coronavirus cases, five elderly deaths Wednesday

The Sauk Valley reported 134 coronavirus cases Wednesday as well as three elderly deaths in Carroll and two in Whiteside counties.

Whiteside County deaths were in their 80s and 90s, and there were 75 new cases with six younger than 20, nine in their 20s, 20 in their 30s, five in their 40s, 13 in their 50s, 10 in their 60s, five in their 70s and seven in their 80s or older.

Whiteside had 22 new recoveries totaling 1,647 cases, 30 deaths and 921 recoveries.

Lee County reported 15 new cases with two teens, four in their 20s, three in their 30s, two in their 40s, one in his or her 50s and three in their 60s as well as a dozen recoveries totaling 764 cases, one death and 538 recoveries.

The outbreak at Dixon Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center totals 31 residents and 12 staff members, not reflected in the daily numbers.

Carroll County's three deaths were in their 80s, and the county had 14 cases with one child, one teen, two in their 20s, two in their 30s, three in their 40s, two in their 50s, two in their 60s and one in his or her 70s, totaling 444 cases and 17 deaths.

Ogle County had 30 new cases for a total of 1,285 cases, seven deaths, and 1,127 recoveries.

The North region (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) has seen six days of positivity increases and four days of hospital admission increases. The region's positivity rate increased from 12.5% to 13.0%. This remains the highest rate of any of the state's 11 regions. Currently, 36% of medical/surgical beds are available and 41% of ICU beds.

After failing to lower its positivity rate below 8%, the North region (Region 1) was moved into the IDPH'stier two mitigation measures-- the only of the state's 11 regions to reach the second tier. Among other things,this meansgatherings are limited to ten people and outdoor dining groups are limited to six people instead of ten.

The region's counties that are reporting the highest positivity rates are Boone (16.3%), Stephenson (16.6%), Winnebago (13.6%), and Whiteside (13.7%). DeKalb County's positivity rate increased to 10.2%.

Illinois announced 6,110 new cases and 51 deaths totaling 389,095 cases with 9,619 deaths.
