Yorkville, Plano men charged with battery in connection with in-store assault

A Yorkville man and a Plano man have been arrested in connection with a reported battery that took place inside of a Plano store Tuesday, Oct. 27.

According to a press statement issued by the Plano Police Department, the Kendall County State's Attorney's Office has approved charges against Anthony J. Martin, 18, of the 1400 block of Orchid Street, Yorkville, of aggravated battery, mob action and criminal trespass to property.

Charges have also been approved against Trevion H. Smith, 18, of the 800 block of Martin Court, Plano, of aggravated battery and mob action.

At approximately 12:16 p.m., Oct. 27, the press statement read, Plano officers responded to a store in the 6800 block of West Route 34, for a report of battery. Upon arrival, officers located two victims, who were treated at the scene by paramedics from the Little Rock Fox Fire Protection District for minor injuries.

The two suspects, identified as Martin and Smith, fled the scene before police arrival, the statement continued. After reviewing surveillance footage, officers were able to identify Martin and Smith, who were later taken into custody. Martin had previously been trespassed from the store property, and was therefore charged with the additional offense.

Martin and Smith were transported to the Kendall County Jail in Yorkvilleto await a bond hearing.

"The charges against Martin and Smith are not proof of guilt. The men are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt," the statement continued.

The incident remains under investigation.
