The voters of DeKalb County District 2, which includes Genoa and Kingston, have an important choice in this election.
There are two candidates, Tim Hughes, a Republican and Christi Slavenas, a Democrat. The Farm Bureau’s Voter Guide asked both candidates this question: What issues related to county government and agriculture do you think the County Board needs to address?
Hughes said: “Black Lives Matter – It is not a national issue anymore because there is a BLM group here in DeKalb. And they are a communist organization. They are against capitalism and nuclear family. Look what the lack of a nuclear family has done to Illinois Black families.”
Slavenas said: “Our soil has always been vital to the people of DeKalb County. The Farm Bureau founders met initially, in part, to address the depletion of our soil. That group of conservation-minded citizens acted to preserve a natural resource. I believe the Farm Bureau could expand on this legacy to achieve greater agricultural literacy throughout the county. The County Board is in a position to support this effort. Promoting agricultural literacy within classrooms and community organizations can strengthen our county.”
I am pleased the Farm Bureau did not endorse Tim Hughes. I represented District 2 for seven years on the DeKalb County Board. I voted for Christi Slavenas and ask you to do the same.
