La Salle County coronavirus update: Peru area sees uptick in cases

25 new cases Tuesday; 72 new cases since last week

Thirty-eight cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Tuesday in La Salle County, increasing the number of active cases to 635 countywide.

The Peru ZIP code area had 25 additional cases, increasing its total to 271 since the beginning of the pandemic. Peru has had 72 new cases in the past week.

As for Tuesday's new cases countywide, a boy younger than 13, two teenage girls, two men in their 20s, four women in their 20s, a man in his 30s, four women in their 30s, two men in their 40s, a man in his 50s, two women in their 50s, a man in his 60s, two women in their 60s, a man in his 70s, five women in their 70s, four women in their 80s, four women in their 90s and two women in their 100s tested positive for the virus.

There have been 2,464 confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic, and of those, 1,764 individuals have been removed from isolation, including 30 more Tuesday. There also have been 65 deaths from complications related to COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

There have been 39,972 tests taken among La Salle County residents since mid-March, and of those, 6.2% have come back positive. As of Saturday, La Salle County's seven-day rolling average of positive tests was at 7.5%.

The Illinois Department of Public Health's ZIP code data (which sometimes lags behind county numbers), with changes since Sunday's report, includes:

• Ottawa had five additional cases, bringing its count to 436 since the start of the pandemic.

• Marseilles had five additional cases, bringing its count to 160.

• Streator had three additional cases, increasing its total to 475.

• Oglesby had three additional cases, bringing its count to 97.

• Somonauk, which also is in DeKalb County, had three additional cases, bringing its count to 62.

• La Salle had two additional cases, bringing its count to 243.

• Sheridan had an additional case, bringing its count to 89.

• Grand Ridge had an additional case, bringing its count to 31.

• Mendota remained at 353.

• Seneca remained at 46.

• Utica remained at 45.

• Earlville remained at 36.

• Leland remained at 29.

• Wenona, which is mostly in Marshall County, was adjusted to 24 cases.

• Ransom remained at nine.

• Tonica remained at 17.

• Lostant remained at 13.

• Millington, which also is in Kendall County, remained at 13.

• Serena remained at nine.

• Cedar Point remained at eight.
