Eddie Jackson finally scored his touchdown.
The Bears safety has had two interception return touchdowns wiped off the scoreboard for penalties this season. Not so on Monday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams. Jackson scooped up a fourth-quarter fumble forced by outside linebacker Robert Quinn and ran eight yards for the score.
It was one of the few bright spots for the Bears in a 24-10 Rams victory.
“You just see the ball on the ground there, just take the time to scoop it up,” Jackson said. “End zone’s right there.”
Fittingly, there was a flag on the play. This one, however, went against the Rams, so Jackson's touchdown stood.
With those six points, the Bears defense outscored the offense’s three points. A Bears defense that forced three takeaways a week earlier against the Carolina Panthers, couldn’t replicate that same success Monday. With little help from the team’s struggling offense, Jackson and the defense spent a lot of time on the field and wore down by the fourth quarter.
The Bears gave up 371 total yards of offense. The Rams rushed for 161 yards and threw for 210.
Jackson scored his touchdown after an injury scare earlier in the second half, in which he crumpled onto the field holding his left knee. During the third quarter, Jackson jumped straight up into the air in an attempt to block a pass from Rams quarterback Jared Goff. He landed in a heap on the turf.
It was a non-contact injury, but Jackson walked off under his own power and returned to the game soon after.
“It was just a little scare,” Jackson said. “But I knew it wasn’t nothing too serious and it started to calm down. I started to feel much better.”
