Johnsburg District 12 announces two positive COVID-19 cases among junior high students, staff

Two people associated with Johnsburg Junior High School have tested positive for COVID-19, Johnsburg School District 12 Superintendent Dan Johnson and the school's principal, Joshua Cornwell, said in a letter posted to the district website Monday evening.

On the heels of last week's McHenry County Health Department recommendation that schools remain in or return to fully remote learning plans due to the rising local COVID-19 caseload, Johnson on Thursday announced the transition to hybrid would be put on pause and students would be in online classes only starting Monday.

Families with students who may have been in close contact, meaning within 6 feet for 15 minutes or longer, with either of the people testing positive for the virus will be notified by the McHenry County Department of Health, according to the letter.

People who have had close contact with those testing positive will be advised to quarantine at home and monitor symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days, according to the letter. Areas of the school accessed by the infected people have been closed off and are being deep cleaned in alignment with state health department guidelines.

There is at least one other new positive COVID-19 case associated with a District 12 student or staff member, as an online dashboard for the Johnsburg school system showed there were three total new cases as of Monday, bringing the total among district students and staff to five.
