Kane County's seven-day rolling positivity average now 11.5% as 168 new cases reported Sunday

KANE COUNTY – Illinois public officials on Sunday reported 168 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and no new deaths.

That is a decrease from the 242 new cases reported on Saturday. The total number of cases in the county is now 16,621. The number of COVID-19 deaths in Kane County remains at 347.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen seven days of positivity increases and eight days of hospital admission increases. The region's positivity rate decreased slightly from 9.3% to 9.2%, still above the state's threshold of 8%. Currently, 25% of medical/surgical beds are available and 37% of ICU beds.

Within the region, Kane County's seven-day rolling positivity average decreased slightly from 11.7% to 11.5%. The region has been placed under stricter COVID-19 mitigations by the Illinois Department of Public Health, meaning indoor dining and bar service are prohibited. To get back to the standard phase four restrictions, a region will need to maintain an average positivity rate of less than or equal to 6.5% over a three-day period.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state's 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 4,062 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 24 additional deaths across the state Sunday.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate remained at 6.1%.
