Area roundup: Amboy boys co-op claims school's first XC championship

Fieldcrest, Henry-Midland, Amboy-LaMoille sned runners to sectionals

PERU — The Amboy co-op scored 50 points to capture the championship of the St. Bede Class 1A Cross Country Regional on Saturday. It was the first boys cross country regional title in school history.

Fieldcrest placed fifth to advance as a team, while on the girls side, Henry-Midland [3rd] and Amboy [5th] also moved on to sectionals.

The Clippers were led by a second-place finish by Brock Loftus [16:52] and a third-place mark by Kyler McNich [17:07], followed by teammates Ian Eller [8th, 17:23] and Charlie Dickinson [15th, 18:07]. Fieldcrest's Mason Stoeger [6th, 17:11] and Christian Skaggs [10th, 17:41] also finished in the top 20.

Earlville's Diego Vazquez [22nd, 18:58], Hall's Ed Arteaga [27th, 18:46], Mendota's Alex Hermosillo [31st, 18:53], St. Bede's Daniel Dugosh [37th, 18:56] and Putnam County's Joey Twardowski [47th, 19:14] were tops for their respective teams.

In the girls event, St. Bede's Brady Mudge [21:35] finished fifth to advance as an individual, while Lauren Althaus [11th, 21:36] and Elly Jones [17th, 22:22] placed in the top 20 for Amboy-LaMoille. H-M's top trio was Nakeita Kessling [5th, 21:17], Hope Self [13th, 21:52] and Maddie Oltman [15th, 22:14].

Mendota's Alayna Nosalik [31st, 23:43] and Fieldcrest's Claire Phillips [32nd, 23:49] led their respective squads.

Bureau Valley harriers run at Alleman

At the Rock Island Alleman 1A Regional, the top two finishers for Bureau Valley were Elijah House [21st, 17:16] and Benjamin Roth [40th, 18:04], while for the girls it was Paige Wagner [53th, 23:49] and Jillian Hulsing [54th, 23:49].
