KANE COUNTY – Illinois public health officials on Thursday reported 236 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and one new death, a woman in her 70s.

That is an increase from the 186 new cases reported on Wednesday. The total number of cases in the county is now 16,038. The number of COVID-19 deaths in Kane County is 345.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 10 days of positivity increases and five days of hospital admission increases. The region's positivity rate increased to 9.4%, well above the state's threshold of 8%. It marked the 15th consecutive day the positivity rate has gone up in this region. Currently, 29% of medical/surgical beds are available and 46% of ICU beds.

Within this region, Kane County's seven-day rolling positivity average is now 12.1%. It was 7.0% on Oct. 9.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state's 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 4,942 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 44 additional deaths Thursday. Illinois now has seen 360,159 total cases of the virus, and 9,387 people have died.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate remained at 5.7%. The state received the results of 80,977 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday afternoon.
